Taylor Swift Hit with $30 Million Lawsuit: Did She Steal ‘Tortured Poets’ Lyrics?

Just as her Eras Tour winds down, Taylor Swift is facing a new legal battle that threatens to overshadow her record-breaking year.

Florida-based poet Kimberly Marasco has filed a $30 million copyright infringement lawsuit against the superstar, alleging that Swift and her collaborators lifted key phrases and themes for the chart-topping album The Tortured Poets Department.

The Accusations

Court documents obtained by DailyNewsEdit reveal Marasco claims she originally sued Swift in 2024, but the case was dismissed on a technicality. Now, she has refiled in federal court, citing specific similarities between her own self-published poetry collection and Swift’s tracks “Fortnight” and “The Black Dog”.

Marasco alleges she has successfully served legal papers to Swift’s co-writers and producers, but claims the singer herself is “dodging” the process servers.

Swift’s Team Responds

While Swift herself has not commented, sources close to the singer dismiss the suit as a “money grab” from a litigious fan. This isn’t the first time Swift has faced copyright claims; she famously won a similar battle over her hit “Shake It Off” in 2022.

A Year of Legal Drama

This lawsuit joins a growing list of celebrity legal battles in 2025, coming just weeks after Chris Brown filed a $500 million defamation suit against Warner Bros. Discovery.

DailyNewsEdit will update this story as the court date approaches.
